I am not from the chigger infested woods. I never grew up knowing a thing about chiggers. The nearest thing to chiggers I ever heard of is a game bird called chucker. So what do I know about chiggers?

I Hate Chiggers-Chigger Treatment Wanted
I hate chiggers. Don't you just hate chigger bites?
It is spring again and that can only mean one thing. Chiggers are soon going to be making a comeback attempt one more time. Once again the avid outdoors man will be looking for his chigger treatment. "Dang, where did I put that can of gas and ice pick?"
If you are anything like I am, you tend to confine your outdoor activities in the woods to times when there is about six inches of snow on the ground. It is a bit on the chilly side but is a lot safer.

I once heard drier sheets are good for a verity of things as well. So being the experimenter I am, I thought, "Why not?"
I put drier sheets in all of my pockets and tied them to my boot tops. I thought sure if anything would work that would do the trick. In the end I did not notice much of any difference when it came to those miserable chigger bites.

Silly me. I usually do my laundry in cold water. (What this means is, those chiggers keep right on living in your underwear and socks, just waiting for the next time you put them on to find that nice warm place to start chewing. Now really, do I need to tell you if you are recontaminating yourself to get those socks out and wash them again?) Chiggers thrive in cold water. It was not until the summer was nearly over I discovered chiggers, like a lot of things, does not do well in really hot water.
I found when I get home if I will dump all of my duds in the washer immediately if not sooner and put the water temp on HOT HOT those little devils don't stand much chance of getting out a live. I also use my favorite bleach and soap.
No I don't normally recommend bleach for much of anything except bleaching out the ring in the toilet, but I am willing to give these guys a special treat. Also, I usually wear one set of clothes to the woods. Why risk letting those guys set up camp in more than one camp ground. Right?
Oh ya. One more thing. You may want to hit the shower as well with some relly hot water and soap. You might want to borrow that cellulite sponge from your wife, or if you are the wife, use that sponge to go over your body in pretty good shape. Or if you are thinking green, you can shower together and scrub each other down.
This is also a good time to look for ticks. I can tell you, some of those ticks are almost as small as those chiggers. But not quite, so look really close. What you might think is a skin blemish might be a tick traveling incognito.
I still have no love lost on those pesky chiggers, but now I can at least detour them and live a reasonably trouble free life, at least from a chigger standpoint.
